I love restaurants. I do. Enjoying the atmosphere, presentation, taste, and craft of a chef’s culinary dream is truly special. Except on Valentine’s Day. Or, as my friends in the restaurant industry like to call it, “Amateur Hour,” where the mantra among the servers is “Eat Fast, Tip Big, Get Out.“

If you own a restaurant, February 14th is not about love and romance; it’s about profit. A well-established, 100-seat restaurant can expect to serve 250 dinners on Valentine’s Day. Add in a pre-fixed menu and the profits surge! And good for them- they deserve every dime! But for Victoria and me, eating out on Valentine’s Day is a hard no.
Every year, millions feel pressured to “show our love,” only to end up with an anti-climactic experience as we pay the hefty restaurant bill.
Before you make that reservation at the over-hyped “Flavor-of-the-Month” hot spot this year, I suggest a sunset sail on the most romantic venue in California—San Diego’s hidden gem: The Sailing Vessel Riviera.

The ultimate date night will begin with your favorite libation or cocktail waiting for you as you board. This sailing experience is private. It’s just you two, the captain and the steward. Every detail is thoughtfully curated, from the customized appetizer and beverage menus to the playlist.
Surrender yourself to extravagance and enjoy the luxury of privacy.
Fair Winds and Following Seas,
Paul & Victoria
